Snow In Paradise.

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. John Ruskin

You sign, are a liar!

You sign, are a liar!

The last time I saw snow in Florida was in 1987… I didn’t live in the Sunshine State yet- we were visiting from the snowbound state of New York at the time. We drove 1200 miles to see… More snow.

I moved to Florida in 1990 and haven’t seen snow since then… Until this week. Snow!

Well, it was more like ice and rain, but still. Schools closed, people were afraid to drive and it seemed like society was about to shut down.

It’s funny how quickly we become used to new situations. Growing up in New York, I remember walking to catch the school bus in snow up to my knees, and we still had school.

Here in Florida, a slight dusting of white causes a panic.

I think everyone just likes to get into the spirit of DISASTER! “We can’t drive, the roads may be slightly damp!” We’re sensitive to cold here in Florida, but only because we’re blessed with almost perfect weather year round.

Is the white stuff gone? Good, let's get going then!

Is the white stuff gone? Good, let’s get going then!

It’s been 27 years since I’ve seen snow in Florida, and I’ll be happy if I don’t see it again for another 27 years.

I moved here for many reasons, and one of them was to get away from snow.

So everyone else can laugh at how Floridians reacted to a snow dusting, it doesn’t bother me.

Tomorrow it’s going to be in the 70s again, and Doug, my daughter and I will be skateboarding… Try doing that up North!

  1. You are so right! Why is everyone complaining about the weather ! I LOVE the Weather. It is Mother Nature at her finest. I say BRING IT ON ! I LOVE ALL OF IT and ALL OF HER !

I was out in the weather today, it’s about 20 degees, and so refreshing. We’ve seen quite a big of snow here in Chicago this year, but nowhere near as much as when I was a kid when we’d see 3 feet at a time weekend after weekend. Have we become sissies in every way? 🙂

    1. I think everyone likes to get in the spirit of unusual situations… Florida, North Florida at least, was almost paralyzed with snow and ice fear… Now it’s in the 70s! I love it here.

  2. I love your focus on the positive aspect and outlook!!!!

    1. Thank you! One of my main thrusts in my spiritual development is to be positive in all situations… It works, sometimes…

  3. I am born and raised in South Florida and the last time I saw snow there was back in the 70’s, now that I am in TN I am missing my sunny days of going to the beach during winter months 😦 . Enjoy the weather 🙂

    1. Thanks- Although Tennessee isn’t too far north. You get to have some real winter weather without being snowed in for months at a time. With that said, I prefer sand to snow…

  4. LOL! I relate to this! I moved from New York to England and when it snows, there is a huge over-reaction. Well it seemed like that at first to me but the plow trucks only go through cities so it pretty much shuts down everywhere else. Btw, so far…no snow here yet! 🙂

    1. Lucky you-no snow. I don’t miss it. I lived nineteen years in Upstate NY and can remember snow up to my waist… Of course, I was only four feet tall, but still…

  5. Sir, yet another masterpiece of American humor. Reminds me of O’Henry.

    1. Thanks Raymond! I appreciate the comparison to such a great writer…
