Welcome to our Find Your Path In Life Series. Get out your opposable thumbs and create the life you dream of! Doug and I are doing it, and you can join us on the journey. Throw yourself into the exercises and thought gymnastics that we present, and figure out what you really want from life.
Do you visualize a brick wall when you wonder, “What am I going to do for a living?”, or “Now what?” ? Don’t worry, we did too. I had brick imprints on my forehead until we discovered our inner monkey sense.
These posts are written as step by step exercises. Start with number one and proceed from there. See? It’s easy! Read our ramblings, look at our example work and then read the exercise at the end of each post. Write down whatever the exercise suggests. Study your own writings. You’ll be surprised at the insight you’ll gain when you allow yourself to write things out. Words become reality.
Doug and I are striking out on our own. We’re asking tough questions of ourselves, and sharing the answers. We’ll give you the framework to ask yourself the same questions, and gain insight into what will make you content.
Come on, grab a machete and clear away some mental brush. We’ll provide the sledgehammer later, once you find the brick wall…
Define your “youhood”. Get to know the real you. Find monkey contentment. Who knows, you may even smile…
Save your exercises. We’re going to build up a body of your own writings and musings that will direct you towards happiness and monkey contentment!

Hi Carol- Yes, we’re going all out on the monkeyness here!
This is weird, but then maybe not.. my husband’s name is also Doug, although he isn’t exactly a money! LOL! WE are both artists, though, and I’m looking for a new career path due to physical limitations.I look forward to following your blog.
Hey Lorraine- We’re all looking for new paths, even Monkey Dougs and human Dougs… And me too! There’s a change unfolding, even if we all can’t see it in its entirety yet… More of us want to be doing our own thing and living a contented life. Thanks for commenting and reading about my silly monkey…
Please excuse my typo I meant “monkey”
I know what you meant… Although a husband made of money would be good too!

I am starting at the beginning…the first step was ‘quitting the secure job’ one year ago… the serious angst has set upon me and I need the monkey in my corner. Lesson One awaits…
Doug is ready to help! I hope you can find something of value in my posts. Angst is always with us when we don’t know the outcome of events… That’s what keeps people in their secure and unhappy lives. If we dare to suffer the angst, I think we’ll all be happier in the end.

Love this 🙂 Refreshing, crisp and to the point! Way to go!
I’m not sure how but I feel connected in some way.My path is changing and if all goes according to plan I will be an organic farmer in the not too distant future. Our buddy is a penguin…they get along well with monkeys I think.
Cheers – great blog
Hey Doug- Organic farming would be a rewarding path… We grow a variety of things on our property and have some chickens, and enjoy tending it. I know doing it for profit is a different game, but I can see the appeal…
Monkeys get along with everyone and everything, even penguins!
Hi again. The farming won’t be a business venture – more of a retirement ‘keeping myself busy’ concept. My brother in law in Thailand was cretified organic last year so I’ll be the free hired help sort of. Willie is kinda cool. He was my wifes comfort pillow when she was sick. Happy New Year young man!! Bring on 2014 it’s going to be AWESOME!!!!
It sounds like you have a pretty good plan laid out for yourself. Farming always was interesting to me. I grew up around farms but never lived or worked on one…
Thanks for liking my post and introducing me to some refreshing stuff.
Thanks for stopping by Ken.

Great concept 🙂
70 steps? Do you have a shorter or simpler how-to list?
Sure- Do what makes you happy.
Yeah, but there’s got to be something between a massively long 70-item BOOK and a five-word glib cliché.

Love your blog! Keep up the good work
Wow! Loving your blog already and I have barely got started, but thank you as I think your path to life is going to be really helpful. I love the fact that you have decided to do it your way. I know what I want out of life but I just don’t know how to go about getting it, here’s hoping your insights will help. xXx
Hey Rutilly- Thanks for the appreciation! I hope Finding Your Path In Life will be useful to you… Let me know how you do with it.
Following our own path is a difficult choice. Everyone and everything will tell us to be reasonable, be realistic, be like everyone else… Don’t listen.
I’m still figuring out how to get where I want to be as well. I share my ideas and discoveries in the hope that I inspire others to strike out on their own too. That’s where true happiness lives, I think… I’m glad you’re following along.
I like your concept of Doug Does Life and finding your path through journalizing your thoughts. It seems that many ignore their own thoughts in lieu of doing what others expect of them to do. Life would be so great if more people could just realize what they want to do and then do it, probably have a lot less grumpy people out there. Thanks for sharing and thanks for liking my blog at http://larryoconnorjr.wordpress.com/2014/03/10/the-3-requirements-of-spirituality/, it was much appreciated.
Thanks Larry- We’d all be better off if everyone followed their heart instead of standard advice.

Hey! Thanks for the visit 🙂 This looks like a great page! We all have trouble finding / deciding on the correct path sometimes, but a clear vision fo what is really important to us is the most crucial element in happiness.
will be reading more for sure 🙂
Glad to hear it!
I love this
Thanks! I’m happy you appreciate it.
[…] This is a really interesting question you should ask yourself. Are you going in the right direction? Is this the right career you wanted to do? Are you using you talents in this job you are currently doing? We all have talents, it doesn’t just have to be just something in the arts. Some people are good at putting files together others are not. Some are good with numbers. What else is there? Here is a little something I want you to tell me. Tell me in a comment what do you do for a living and do you love it? If you are doing something but you don’t love it then tell me what you really want to do but first tell me what you doing which you don’t like. I’m waiting for the comments….. Here is some question I asked myself from Doug Does Life […]

Cool concepts. What I do for a living? I share the magic of words. I have four books out on Amazon. Have lots more clamoring in my head. I love my work. It has taken me a long time to get here, though, and many detours.
Good for you Aya- It sounds like you’ve found your calling. I hope you can inspire others to do the same…
We write about the same types of things and I really enjoy your blog. Never stop!
In fact when someone doesn’t understand after that its up to other
people that they will help, so here it happens.
