Monkey Love.

What are we passionate about? This is the next question that Doug and I asked ourselves. Passion is what drives almost everyone, even more so than need or even fear. If our passion is recognized, appreciated and analyzed with conscious thought, we could discover some of our underlying motivations.

Webster’s Dictionary defines passion as

a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept.

That sounds like something important to tap in to, if we want to discover our authentic selves. Doug and I thought about everything in our life that we feel passionate about. We didn’t limit ourselves to concrete objects. We thought about values and ideas as well. We came up with

Monkey Cymbals.

Monkey Cymbals.

  • Knowing and knowledge.
  • Freedom.
  • Privacy.
  • Spirituality.
  • Good food.
  • fairness
  • Honesty.
  • Creativity.
  • Reading and writing.
  • Creating.

Doug wanted to add music, but I’m not very passionate about it and, in his case, passion does not translate into value!

We looked at this list for a while, and let it seep into our monkey skulls. This list is who we are. This list is what informs our decisions, fuels our dreams and creates our view of reality. We are holding gold in our hands, as far as insight into ourselves goes.

There’s value in realizing and embracing passions. If passions can be aligned with a career, happiness is sure to follow…

Think about all of the things that you are passionate about life. If you’re really stuck, it may be hard to come up with anything at first. Stick with it though. What do you enjoy doing? Where do you like to be? What are your hobbies?

Write a list of your passions. How do the items on this list influence your life? What can you do to get yourself more in line with your passions? What are you MOST passionate about? Add any notes that you feel are important to your passion list.

Keep this list handy and review it often. Try to see where your life and your passions intersect or overlap. Are there more areas where you can make this happen? Are there areas in your life where this doesn’t happen at all ( We bet you don’t much like those parts of your life)?  Hold on to your list as a reminder of what drives you. We may use it again in an upcoming exercise.

Keep going! What are your skills and abilities?
