The Spiritual Qualities Of The Elements

The search for truth is in one way hard and in another way easy, for it is evident that no one can master it fully or miss it wholly. But each adds a little to our knowledge of nature, and from all the facts assembled there arises a certain grandeur. ~Aristotle

The Four Elements

The four elements- air, earth, fire and water, are the building blocks of physical reality. Each has its own spiritual aspect, and each can teach us different lessons.

According to this website, the elements as we know them are

but outwardly manifested forms of the Elements themselves. Their manifestations are as follows: the element of water has magnetic properties; it nurtures and sustains. The element of fire has electrical and creative properties. Air is a detaching element and enables co-existence of the two main elements, fire and water. The element of earth binds fire, water and air in various proportions, which makes possible the formation of materials with different properties.

Early cultures understood and respected the different aspects of the elements. They lived with them in a close relationship on a daily basis. Today, in our bubbles of reality cut off from nature, we take the elements for granted or don’t even think about them.

What Can Be Learned?

Doug thinks he’s the fifth element…

The elements hold great power and it can be accessed by us.

In order to open communication, we need to respect the elements and believe that we can contact the spirit of each.

By connecting with the elements, we will be more grounded in physical reality.  We will integrate with the physical and spiritual world that surrounds us.

The different traits of each element can be used to help us through problems in life.

The flowing nature of water reminds us that obstacles don’t have to stop our progress…

Earth can help us stay rooted in strong… Fire and air also have lessons for us.

In our next post, Doug and I will share an exercise that will allow you to connect with each element and form a bond. You’ll learn what help each can provide, and what lessons you’ll likely learn.

Get ready to meet the stuff that makes up our reality, including us…

  1. THIS I dig! Awesome awesome post and I really look forward to tomorrow’s too. This beautiful earth has so much to teach. I’m still grooving with my plant here and heard the birds singing this morning! Thank you so.

    Peace ~ Allison

    1. Hey Allison- I’m glad you’re liking the posts. after the next one about the elements I think I’ll start on being present- how to do it, why we should and things related to it.

The birds are going crazy outside here too… I’m kind of surprised they still come around with all my cats looking to make them into fast food!

  2. Each of us relates to life in a unique way depending on how we have experienced ourselves in relation to our internal and external world. Having experiences in altered states of consciousness has given me a fresh perspective of how I relate to myself, others, as well as the inner and outer world. On one level of existence nothing is separate it is only how our brain and mind are interpreting what we are seeing that has it appearing separate. Energetically, on the level of consciousness, all is one. Each of us is the Dreamer and the dream itself; we are the projector and the projected. There is an aspect of us that is absolutely aware of everything through all time and all space we are realigning with this aspect after many life times of energetic misalignment. All elements everything in existence seen and unseen only have the meaning each of us assign to it.

Words are an interesting phenomenon. Considering the word connect or connected.for example we are never not connected energetically perhaps it is only our awareness of something that shifts our perception of it.

It is our conditioning that limits our experience and limits our relationship with everything.

    1. Excellent observations- I think many of us forget about the interconnectedness of everything… I know I do when life starts intruding into my mind.

When I start getting too wrapped up with the external world I pull back and ground myself… I remind myself that it’s all a part of me as I am of it. This makes it easier to accept whatever challenge I’m dealing with at the time…

  3. All things were created spiritually before they were created physically, that includes trees

  4. Doug,

Browsing through your blog is like walking into a room filled with people who have a positive attitude! What a lift it is to spend some time here!

I have been working very hard to express many of the same ideas you express here, but haven’t done it half as well, and even though I have taken a different route to do so, and approach these ideas from a different vantage point, I feel like we are often trying to accomplish the same thing.

I appreciate your attention to my blog, and thank you for being so nice…..John H.

    1. Thanks John! It does seem that we’re moving in the same general direction with our blogs. There are always different ways to do something, and different paths to the same destination.

I enjoy following yours through your blog.
