Wild Animals…

Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem.~ A.A. Milne

Today, I went to church with my wife and daughter… I’m not really a church person, but I enjoy the open mindedness of the Unity church my wife attends.

I’m trying to get my daughter, newly living with me, involved in some activities. This church has a youth group that does a lot of fun things, such as camping at a wolf sanctuary… So, off to church I went.

What’s wrong, ya never saw an otter and a pig before?

With my daughter dropped off in the youth classroom, I sat down for the service… Next to an otter and a pig.

Looking around, I noticed stuffed animals sprinkled throughout the seats… I’m liking church more already!

Any church that offers Reiki healing and has stuffies as members in OK with me. I would’ve brought Doug if I knew he’d be welcome…

We found out that the animals are part of a drive to collect friends for sick and disadvantaged children. The goal is to fill up every seat in the church with a stuffed animal to give away.

I’m glad I didn’t bring Doug after all. I support the effort and we’ll send an animal or two to a new home, but I wouldn’t subject an unsuspecting child to Doug, even as a bad joke… I’m stuck with the monkey, for better or worse.

The bear did his best impersonation of Robert De Niro in "Cape Fear"...

I like the idea of giving a bunch of kids a new stuffed friend. I’m a little concerned for the kid who gets the creepy bear who sat in the back though… He glared at me through the entire church service.

I guess I attract trouble making stuffies…

  1. Haha, love your thoughts on the stuffed animals – what a great idea from the church, too!

    1. I think it’s a great idea too. we’re going to start collecting some to deliver next Sunday.

  2. Hahahaha… You have a good sense of humor John… I am not a church person at all myself, (too many years studing with ‘monjas’ and too many years of compulsory attending mass every Friday)…, if only we would have been given cuddling toys back then… 🙂

    1. Thanks Gloria- I was forced to attend church as a child too. I feel spirituality is a private pursuit, so I keep my beliefs as such, for the most part.
